BMW’s New Superbike – the S1000RR

BMW unveiled S1000RR the superbike this April in Germany. BMW confirmed that their new motorcycles will be on sale next year and expected to make 1,000 production models by the end of 2009. BMW S 1000 RR – ‘S’ is for Supersports, marking a new class of motorcycles from BMW, ‘1000’ for the engine size, and ‘RR’ for the model itself. The engine is an inline 4, producing around 190hp and the bike weighs around 190kg. The S1000RR also features a traction control system.

BMW Motorrad has decided to enter superbike racing with the new S1000RR, a 1000cc four cylinder bike, competing with the 1000cc V4 Aprilia, the KTM RC8 1200cc v-twin, 2008 Kawasaki ZX-10R, Ducati 1098R and Honda CBR Fireblade.
